Additional Information:

If you have questions about this challenge that are not answered by the information listed below, please feel free to contact the mod at implodinglittlehearts@gmail.com.

What is It's All in the Name?

  • A gift-exchange challenge focused on titles (provided by the participant when signing up). All fandoms are welcome, including original works!

  • RPF nominations will only be considered if the people are famous and at least 18 years of age.

What are the minimum requirements for works?

  • Fiction must be at least 300 words.

  • Art must be a cleaned, good-resolution sketch on unlined paper.

  • There are no minimum requirements for treats.

How do nominations work?

  • Nominations and sign-ups will be open concurrently. Nominations will close when sign-ups close.

  • However, if you are considering participating, please do not wait until the last minute to nominate your fandoms, relationships, or titles. Please nominate as early as possible to ensure that your nominations can be reviewed and approved with ample time remaining.

  • Nomination limits are 10 fandoms, 20 relationships, and 20 freeform "Additional Tags" (which will serve as titles for requests when signing up). Lone/single characters may be nominated under "Relationships" by using the format "Solo: [Character Name]".

  • Only titles may be nominated under "Additional Tags".

  • The tagset for this challenge can be found in the challenge profile box at the top, or by following this link. Please follow the guidelines listed above when nominating to this tagset. To start nominating or to check if your nominations have been approved, click on the appropriate choice in the top right corner of the screen.

  • You may nominate items for the tagset even if you are not completely sure whether you want to include them in your own sign-up.

  • If you sign up early on, please, please do check out any later nominations that have been added before sign-up ends, and feel free to change your previous sign-up based on those!

How do requests work?

  • Participants must request fanfiction and/or fanart in 3-10 unique fandoms, with 1-20 relationships. Repeats allowed, as long as there are at least 3 unique fandoms. A max of 10 requests is allowed.

  • Please be sure to list any Do Not Wants (DNWs) in your sign-up box. If your DNWs are the same for each request, you can copy/paste them into each box, or list them as "Universal DNWs" in just one request box. A DNW is anything - a rating, category, headcanon, kink, etc. - that you absolutely don't want to read or see because it would ruin a gift for you. Please do not be vague when describing DNWs. For example, "DNW kink" is not enforceable.

  • You may not include anything besides DNWs in your request box. That is, no optional details about your gift requests are permitted. Similarly, links to letters containing extra details are not permitted.

  • You must title each request with the exact title(s) you would want that gift to have (if that is the request which gets created) by using "Additional Tags" from the All in the Name tagset. The heart of this gift-exchange challenge lies at the titles of each of your requests! Matches will be based on fandom, medium, and relationship, but because optional details are not allowed, the title(s) you choose for each request will suffice as the sole inspiration for the creator when making your gift.

  • As a result, it is recommended that you limit only one relationship to one request box (unless you wouldn't mind the same title(s) for all the relationships you've requested in that fandom).

  • For example: I could make three requests for the "Fandom" fandom. The first request, titled "ABC", is for the relationship "Character Y/Character Z". The second request, titled "DEF", is for the relationship "Character W/Character Y/Character Z". The third request, titled "GHI", is for the relationship "Character W & Character Z".

  • Titles must be nominated as "Additional Tags".

  • If you'd like to include more than 20 title options for one request, you may do so by using the "Optional Tags" below the box. You may only use this tag option to include more title tags that have been nominated in the All in the Name tagset - no other kinds of tags (canonical, rating, etc.) are permitted!

  • For this challenge, "/" will indicate romantic and/or sexual relationships, while "&" will indicate platonic relationships.

  • In order to nominate a single character, nominate as "Solo: [Character Name]" under "Relationships".

  • Titles should not be used as placeholders in lieu of optional details. Please keep in mind the spirit of the challenge! If your request is titled "in which character A makes disgusting cake for character B", your creator must make a gift with the exact same title - word for word, punctuation for punctuation!

  • Do try to be creative and have fun! This is why the challenge is a 300-word flash exchange - not much to be lost (for the recipient as well as the creator), and hopefully some interesting surprises to be gained!

How do offers work?

  • Participants must offer fanfiction and/or fanart in 3-10 unique fandoms, with 1-20 relationships.

  • For offers, please feel free to lump in all the relationships and characters you'd be willing to write for one particular fandom under the same box (i.e. one box per fandom; each box contains all your offers for that fandom).

  • Offers may include titles as "Additional Tags", but matches will not be based on titles. Matches will only be based on medium, fandom, and relationship.

  • As soon as sign-ups close, matches will be generated. If none of your offers can match a request, you will be sent an email notification by the mod. Please reply to this email within twelve hours to change your offers so that you can match a request. If not, your sign-up will be deleted.

So, can you summarize the challenge-specific requirements described above once again?

  • Participants cannot include anything besides DNWs in the request box.

  • Participants must include at least one title for each fic/art requested. This title must be included as an "Additional Tag" when making the request.

  • Matches will be based on fandom, medium, and relationship only.

  • The creator must create one piece that corresponds to 1 fandom and 1 relationship in the medium requested by the recipient.

  • This gift must be titled with the exact same title that the recipient used for that request.

  • If the recipient proposed multiple titles for that request, the creator must choose only 1 of those titles when fulfilling the assignment - again, the gift's title must be exactly the same as the title tag that the recipient used.

  • Similarly, if the recipient proposed more than one relationship for that request, the creator is free to choose only 1 of those relationships when creating the gift.

  • The creator may choose any one assigned request to create for - as long as they create a gift in the requested medium & fandom that matches at least 1 relationship & 1 title the recipient associated with that particular request. Of course, DNWs must be respected as well.

  • Since optional details are not allowed, the title will also serve as the sole inspiration for the gift created.

  • However, creators are more than welcome to take a look at their recipient's AO3 page to see what kinds of themes, tropes, etc. they seem to enjoy.

  • Be creative and have fun with both, the titles and the gifts!

How do I submit my assignment?

  • Matches will be based on fandom, medium, and relationship. Once sign-up closes and assignments go out, no changes will be made. The only instance in which you can contact the mod about changing your assignment is in the rare event that AO3 makes a matching error.

  • Once assignments are sent out, they will be emailed to the email address associated with your AO3 account. If you do not receive an email, please try to check spam. Assignments can also be found by going to your dashboard, and then clicking on "Assignments" towards the bottom of the column on the left-hand side. Matches should be out within about twenty-four hours after sign-ups close.

  • You just need to create one work that matches one medium, fandom, and relationship (and title!) request that your recipient has made. It must respect their DNWs.

  • The work may be either a fanfiction of at least 300 words, or fanart that is a clean sketch on unlined paper.

  • The work must be titled with the exact same title (word for word, punctuation for punctuation) as the recipient used for the particular request that you are creating the gift for. If the recipient proposed multiple title tags for that request, the creator must choose only one of them.

  • The assignment must be submitted by the appropriate time on March 24 (keep time-zone in mind). In order to post the work, you can select "Post New Work" in the top right-hand corner of the screen. Fill out the form as you usually would, and then tick the appropriate box for this challenge and your recipient (under the "Associations" field).

  • You can include creator's notes in the work. However, since this is an anonymous exchange, please ensure that the Notes will not reveal or hint at the creator's identity.

  • For the sake of preserving anonymity, please do not directly contact your recipient. If you have questions about your assignment that concern your recipient's DNWs, contact the mod at implodinglittlehearts@gmail.com. The mod will reach out to the recipient, and then relay their answer back to you.

What is a treat?

  • A treat is an extra gift created for someone that is not your assigned recipient. Even if you want to create a treat, please make sure to complete your actual assignment first!

  • Anybody can make treats - you don't have to be signed up for this challenge to do so.

  • There are no minimum requirements for treats. Similarly, media for treats are not limited to fanfiction and fanart.

  • However, treats still need to respect DNWs.

  • In order to post a treat, you will have to manually enter the collection and recipient's name when filling out the form.

I can't complete my assignment in time. What should I do?

  • You are free to change or delete your sign-up before sign-up closes.

  • Assignments will be sent out very soon once sign-up closes. After this, if at any point you realize you won't be able to complete your assignment, please default asap. Ideally, any defaults should be done by March 18th so that pinch-hitters can start picking up dropped assignments well before works are revealed.

  • In order to default, go to the "Assignments" tab displayed on the left-hand side of your dashboard, find this challenge, and click "Default". If you have trouble doing so, then you may email the mod at implodinglittlehearts@gmail.com to leave a message saying that you need to default.

  • If you default, and are then defaulted on in turn, you will not be sent out as a pinch-hit.

How do pinch-hits work?

  • Pinch-hitters are wonderful volunteers who complete assignments that have been defaulted, or had no matches to start with.

  • Pinch-hits will be posted on Dreamwidth as they appear. Please leave a comment here, or email the mod at implodinglittlehearts@gmail.com if you are able to pick up a pinch-hit.

  • To pick up a pinch-hit via Dreamwidth, please reply to the post that lists the pinch-hit you can write for - anyone can comment (you don't need to have a Dreamwidth account), and all comments are screened to maintain anonymity. In the comment, please include your AO3 username and the pinch hit # you can pick up.

  • Last-minute pinch-hits will likely get an extended deadline for completion.

  • Anyone is welcome to pinch-hit - you don't have to be signed up for this challenge to do so.

  • Attempts will be made to deliver at least one gift to every participant, but there are no guarantees.

This is the overview of rules:

  1. Participants will create one work based on a request that they are assigned. The gift must match the medium, fandom, and relationship (and title!) of the request.

  2. All requests and gifts must conform to the challenge-specific requirements described in the above FAQ.

  3. Minimum requirements for gifts are either fanfiction of at least 300 words, or fanart that is a cleaned sketch of good resolution on unlined paper.

  4. Any DNWs must be respected. (By nature, vague DNWs cannot be enforced, but please create in good faith.)

  5. Be respectful. No shaming, hate or spite.
